Vipiteno, Italy, Day 4, 06/08/19

Let me start this entry with War Eagle. Auburn Baseball 11 and North Carolina 7.  More about that later.
Today we took a road trip through the Brenner Pass.  Our destination was Vipiteno, a medieval village in northern Italy.  Linda and I visited this village 17 years ago with Vic and Cindi Hicks along with Cathy and Ricky Mobley.  Cathy wanted to go to Italy for some gelato.  So we left Garmish, Germany and drove south to  Italy.  You have to imagine the setting... nestled in the Italian Alps, a spaghetti lunch with wine in the city square... surrounded by mountains...postcard perfect.  After lunch, every one ordered gelato.  While walking back to the car, Cathy tripped on the cobblestones and dropped her gelato.  Go forward to present day.  I have thought often about Cathy and her missed opportunity and sought to recreate the incident with a positive outcome.  Today's mission.
We had a nice drive through the mountains and arrived at the Hotel Golden Kreuz  in time for lunch.  We ate lunch in the same restaurant.  Spaghetti with wine.  Afterwards we went next door to the gelato store and everyone bought gelato.  The lunch was wonderful, the gelato was delicious, and the drive back was uneventful.
After returning to Innsbruck we decided to go back to the Old Town.  After taking a few pictures, it was time for the Auburn-North Carolina baseball game to start.  We settled into a corner in the Stifs Keller, a local restaurant.  After a dinner of German sausage and Austrian beer, we turned our thoughts to the game.  The game started at 6:00 p.m. here and ended around 9:30 p.m.  I know some of the patrons wondered what I was saying when North Carolina was pitching and I was saying "throw it in the dirt".  Linda and Mary Ann admonished Jerry and myself and asked us to hold it down.  Auburn won and it was a fairy tale ending to a fun filled day.  Tomorrow we will drive to Fussen, Germany to the Cinderella Castle.  We will meet some friends of ours, Jenny and J.C. Hamilton for dinner in Garmisch at the Fraundorfer Restaurant.  It should be another fun day.
